Over £1,000 Raised as Participants Race Across the Gower for Charity
Participants from across the UK came together to take on the incredible Race Across the Gower, with three challenging routes showcasing the very best of the Welsh coastline while raising vital funds for charity.
The event was organised by Your PT, a national personal training company, alongside local rambler Andrew Tryell, bringing together a shared passion for adventure, wellbeing and the Welsh outdoors.
Joining the challenge was Switch Play, the organisation that helps professional athletes transition from elite sport into new careers and everyday working life. Their team took part in the event to raise funds for the same cause, demonstrating their commitment to giving back while embracing the physical challenge.
The toughest challenge saw participants cover an incredible 50 miles, setting off from Penclawdd and travelling through the night. Others completed a 40-mile route from Rhossili, while a third group took on a 20-mile route starting from Oxwich. All participants crossed the finish line at The Wine House Swansea, where friends, family and supporters gathered to celebrate their achievements.
The event concluded with a charity raffle, helping to raise more than £1,000 in support of cancer research in memory of Phyllis, affectionately known as “WelshyCancerQueen”, whose courage, positivity and determination inspired thousands before she sadly lost her battle with multiple cancers.
Among those taking on the challenge was Carrie from The Welsh House Swansea, who completed the demanding 40-mile route.
Carrie said: “Taking on 40 miles across the Gower was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, but also one of the most rewarding. Every step reminded us why we were there – to honour Phyllis’ incredible legacy and raise money for such an important cause. Crossing the finish line surrounded by friends, family and our Welsh House team made every mile worthwhile, and I’m incredibly proud to have been part of such a special event.”
Beyond the fundraising, the event welcomed participants from across the UK, many experiencing the spectacular Gower coastline for the very first time. From dramatic cliffs and sweeping beaches to picturesque villages, the challenge highlighted why Gower remains one of Wales’ most treasured landscapes, with participants also receiving a warm Welsh welcome from The Welsh House Swansea team throughout the event.
The organisers are committed to making Race Across the Gower an annual event, continuing to promote health, resilience and community while showcasing the beauty of Wales and raising vital funds for causes that matter.
